Pikachu recap and cupcakes

So, since I didn't give much info on how Pikachu was made, here it is. He is/was a six layer vanilla cake with vanilla icing, with rice crispie treat ears and hands. He took three days (I was pacing myself) and a lot of fondant :P
On a different note, black Friday sales found me a new cupcake cookbook! I tried the "cinnamon puff" cupcakes for a picnic and they were spectacular! (even in mini version) I plan on making them again during Christmas break (they'd be delicious with hot chocolate)

Pikachu!

I just finished my first character cake! had a bit of trouble with proportions as you can see (didn't think fondant made things that much bigger), but for the most part he's pretty cute. I'm proud of the face :)

2nd Cake for Auction

Yesterday I successfully completed cake number 2 of the weekend, thus wrapping up what turned out not to be such a hectic two days after all. I'm very pleased with this one :)

Rose Cake Pics

Busy Busy Busy

For months this blog has laid dormant, but no more! Fresh from the oven, I bring you the busiest four day weekend of my life. I have to prepare two cakes for a cake auction Saturday night. Today I'm working on a three tiered vanilla cake, decorated with white fondant, and gum paste roses (made in advance, 3 1/2 hours :P). Pictures and more up dates later.

Serenity Pics

Well, I've procrastinated long enough... I actually ended up with a respect for this cake despite the fact it claimed my favorite shirt with black icing stains. Would have posted the pictures sooner, but had a death in the family :( So here they are, my best effort at creating the shiniest ship in the 'verse :) not the best pics, better ones on the way

Serenity Recap

Well, there were lessons learned...
1 it's waaaaaaaaay bigger than it should be
2 it's rounder than it should be
but we'll see what happens at the party...
pictures will be posted afterwards

Serenity Day 1

Didn't get as much done today as I'd hoped, so tomorrow is do or die. I was able to carve the styrofoam parts and glue them on, but my attempts to cover the engines in rice crispy treats ultimately failed, so I've got some modling chocolate setting up for a different take on it. Baked the cakes and they're ready for carving tomorrow.

FINALLY

It's finished! After having to haggle with the guys at Tap Plastics, a detour in Yosemite, and lots of glue setting, the base for Serenity is done! Now I just sit and wait around till two days before it's due date, Aug. 7th...dum dee dum dee dum

Shiny!

Finally some progress! While to anyone reading this, it looks like I've got the patterns for the Serenity cake frame done in no time; in reality I've wanted to have this done for about three months now so I could do some practice runs before the due date(still next month *phew*). Hopefully I'll have the full frame done today, courtesy of Tap Plastics (and my dad), and will post pics later.

Hello Internet Goers

Welcome to my brand new blog! If you choose to follow it, you will be following my adventures in pastry, art, and ultimately (hopefully) making a name for myself in the world of cake. I may stray drastically off topic at times, but who knows what the future holds. I will be posting pictures of my latest or on-going projects, the last of which was my first carved cake, and the next of which will be my second spaceship cake, Serenity.
